Review of Casino Night – May 17, 2014. Nineteen guests were in attendance. Attendance was impacted by not having a mailed marketing piece go out. Next year need to make sure it is included in a mail piece with other outings; maybe have a Spring/Summer Outings Flyer and a Fall/Winter Outings Flyer.
Golf & Dinner Outing Update –Monday, July 14. This year’s outing will be held at Elcona. The cost of the outing is $85, which includes a deli buffet lunch and dinner. Dinner only cost $25. Bill Scholl, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, will provide remarks at the program portion of the dinner. Only 5 teams registered so far. Kim and Vince offered to contact past players to encourage their registration this year.
Elkhart County Fair Outing Update –Saturday, July 19. 4-H Fair outing with special guest Charlie Cardinal and an evening concert with 3 Doors Down. Eighteen tickets sold through the online registration system so far. Bob Woods will be Charlie Cardinal. Carol will check to see if Chloe Anagnos, Miss Ball State, can make an appearance with Charlie Cardinal since she is from Elkhart.
Wine & Beer Tasting – Samantha Adamczewski has secured the ballroom at Tippecanoe Place Restaurant on October 17 for this year’s Wine & Beer Tasting. Time will most likely be 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. Jay will host again this year. The price will be set as soon as the menu is selected.
Shopping Trip – The Bus Shopping Trip to Woodfield Mall is Saturday, November 8. Jenn Crist and Gail Jaskowiak will chair the event. There will be one 46-passenger bus. The Alumni Programs Office will an online registration page, but guests may also still register by emailing and paying the day of, or by mailing their registration and check to Carol at the Alumni Programs office. The price will remain the same at $30.
Alumni Council & Alumni Association Reports –Vince reported that changes in the Alumni Council structure were the main topic of discussion at the last Alumni Council meeting. Kim announced that she is chairing a committee of former Alumni Council chairs and a gathering of them at Homecoming. She also reported on the Alumni Association matching gift program for the Cardinal Commitment Campaign.
University Updates – Carol reported on the announcement of BSU’s 15th president, Dr. Paul Ferguson, on the nearing completion of the Cardinal Commitment Campaign, and on the Campus Master Plan.
Chapter Scholarship – Wes Steffen reported that $1,000 has been contributed by board members to establish a scholarship account. Discussion was held on the benefits of establishing the scholarship fund at the BSU Foundation versus the Elkhart Community Foundation, since they provide a matching component. Kim moved to establish the scholarship fund at the BSU Foundation. Wes seconded, and the motion passed.
Lerner Scholarship Event – Bob Woods gave an update on the plans for the March 13 University Singers concert event. It was decided to plan the event assuming that a reception with Dr. Ferguson will not be a part of the event. Kim moved to proceed with the March 13 event. Wes seconded and the motion passed.
Elections and New Member Recruitment – Mia Trimboli was invited to join the chapter board and accepted. Vince Von Der Vellen was nominated for the President position. Vince accepted the nomination and was elected. Sam Adamczewski was nominated to serve as Vice President, accepted the nomination, and was elected. Vince will continue to serve out his term as representative on the Alumni Council.
Next Meeting – The next meeting take place on Friday, October 17, 2014, at 6:00 p.m., at the Tippecanoe Place Restaurant, prior to the Wine & Beer Tasting event.
