The Association staff, volunteers, participants, partners, Ball State University Foundation, and Ball State University have contributed their time, talents, and financial resources totaling $1,729,628 to make 2008-09 another successful year. Highlights of 2008-09 accomplishments included:

2008-09 Accomplishments

  • In 2008, 44.96% of all alumni (66,531) had an Alumni Involvement Index number, which measures alumni involvement and participation in more than 50 areas, such as having an alumni ID or license plate, and attending events. Index numbers increased 4.69% from 2007.
  • The Alumni Association hosted 243 on- and off-campus events in which 26,735 alumni participated.
  • Homecoming 2008, Red, White + U, generated record attendance including 20,437 spectators filling Scheumann Stadium and 909 alumni and guests attended the pre-game rally. Homecoming Week activities produced excellent participation and provided a venue to exhibit enthusiasm and pride in Ball State University.
  • In 2008-09, $127,500 in scholarships was awarded by the Alumni Association to students. Awards included Cardinal Alumni Recruitment Team, Kokomo Area, Legacy, Northeastern Indiana Alumni Chapter, Ray Ashley, Oliver C. Bumb and Robert E. Linson scholarships.
  • In 2008, the iAlumni relations initiative generated 516 alumni requests for more information, 504 responses to mass E-mails or reservations, and 439 Ball State Alumnus Class Notes entries.
  • In Fall 2008, 2,691 alumni and friends attended Alumni Association-hosted football pre-game rallies for six home football games.
  • A re-launched Ball State Alumnus magazine debuted in November 2008. In its 72nd year of publication, the magazine was distributed to an average of 134,908 alumni households.
  • The Association continued to expand its social media outlets with 586 Twitter followers, 2,721 members of the Association’s LinkedIn group, and 3,682 Facebook members. The Association also hosted events on Second Life and posted Ball State videos on YouTube.
  • The Cardinal Pride License Plate continued to be a popular choice for in-state alumni with 3,740 plates issued at the end of 2008.
  • The Association recognized 34 alumni through award programs such as Coach-of-the-Year, Distinguished Alumnus, Graduate of the Last Decade (G.O.L.D.), and Benny Awards in 2008.
  • Additional technology usage - There was a monthly average of 103,790 views to the Alumni Association Web site, the Alumni Registry has grown to 12,417 alumni, and the Career Alumni Network has 299 volunteer consultants online and 751 users.

The Ball State University Alumni Association, an interdependent organization of the university, exists to foster and fully realize the ideals and mission of the university. The Alumni Association encourages loyalty, participation, and support of the university by informing alumni of the achievements and needs of their alma mater. The Alumni Association advances the university throughout the world and unites all alumni in closer bonds of education, fellowship, tradition, and mutual assistance.
