Sharon Canaday holds a BA degree in political science from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana and is a graduate of the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma, the Basic Economic Development Course at Ball State University, and the Community Development Course at Ball State University. She is a member of the Indiana Economic Development Association, the International Economic Development Council, and the Mid-America Economic Development Council. She serves on the Fishers, Indiana Economic and Community Development Commission.
Sharon partners with communities in the areas of asset inventories, visioning, readiness to proceed assessment, strategic planning, and other quality of life and placemaking initiatives.
Before joining Ball State University’s Building Better Communities in 2009 she served as director of Kiwanis International’s European Center in Belgium. Prior to that, she was the executive director of Community and Economic Development for the city of South Bend, Indiana; and served as regional director of the Indiana Department of Commerce Region 2 in Northwest and North Central Indiana following five years as project manager for the Department of Commerce and as special assistant to the Governor. Sharon has lived and traveled throughout Asia, Europe, and Micronesia.
