Herron High School, located in the old Herron Arts Museum in Indianapolis, Indiana, serves the downtown population in grades 9-12. Mayor Bart Peterson approved the school’s charter in 2006. The curriculum uses a liberal arts approach, emphasizing classical art and literature from many cultures. The school uses small class sizes, close relationships between students and teachers, and regular remediation to emphasize the academic rigor in preparation for college. Classrooms are on all floors of the building, multipurpose galleries are flexible spaces for a variety of activities, and student work is displayed throughout the building.
