Options Charter School in Noblesville is an alternative to the traditional high school program providing students in grades 9-12 a small caring community that utilizes a variety of innovative approaches to focus on the educational success, health and wellness of each student. The purpose of the highly personalized learning community at Options is to “reconnect disengaged students” by providing them opportunities to engage with the community and become contributing members of society. Unique curricular opportunities include community partnerships, career field experiences, high-tech classroom environments, and the senior institute project. The senior institute project challenges students to find a topic of interest to them, that benefits the community, demonstrates prior learning, and gives them a chance to learn something new.
Options Noblesville is located in a one-story brick building in a suburban office park that is connected to surrounding residential areas. The building is owned by and leased from Braun & Sullivan LLP and shared by Options with a small State Farm Insurance office. The spatial system of the school consists on one main common hallway, which all classrooms are located along. A common area, digital media room, and an art and resource room are conveniently accessible to all students at the east end of the main hallway.
Serving approximately 135 students, the small school culture in reinforced by the vibrant color and texture of murals and individually hand-painted ceiling tiles throughout the building. This allows students to take ownership of the educational facility through personalization. Further reinforcing this close and effective relationship building between students and staff, students address their teachers by their first name. Instead of traditional front-facing classroom layouts, students face one-another, allowing for effective interaction and encouraging support and respect of each other.
