Discovery Charter School
The Discovery School, located in Chesterton, Indiana is an elementary charter school that opened in the fall of 2010. The Discovery School is housed in a well maintained, re-purposed office building. As a charter school it has dealt effectively with issues of adaptive reuse as well as how to capitalize on its unique location. It is adjacent to the Indiana Dunes National Park and weaves an environmentally-infused, place-based curriculum into its mission. The future plans of this school are to not only have a positive first year in operation, but to also add members to their school board, gain volunteers to help with their curriculum, operation, and fund raising efforts, and develop a mission driven curriculum and identity.
