Student Opportunities

Building Better Communities Fellows and Health Fellows projects offer you the opportunity to gain valuable work experience while earning academic credit. You will put your classroom knowledge into practice by solving a real problem in an Indiana business or organization and network with potential future employers.

You will hone your communication and problem-solving skills by working with an interdisciplinary team, just as you will in a professional setting after graduation. As part of your project, you may visit job sites and other locations, both in Indiana and outside the state. Some projects even provide an opportunity to present your work at a conference or work with your faculty mentor to have it published.

As a Fellow, you will also have the opportunity to attend professional development training at no cost to you. Our partnerships with campus organizations such as the Career Center and the Digital Corps allow you to gain general job skills as well as specific technical skills needed to complete your project. The Fellows program will help you to develop and polish the skills needed to find a job after graduation.

Several of our previous Fellows have obtained positions with their client organization. Other students report that their Fellows experience helped them to secure a job after talking about their involvement with the program in an interview. Your experience with Building Better Communities Fellows will give you an edge on the competition!

Take the next step. Check out current projects, get more information at our frequently asked questions page, read what previous Fellows say about how their experiences helped them, and get involved.
