Ways to Celebrate Ball State Student Employment Week

  • Submit your student employees' names to the Career Center for the drawing to win prizes.
  • Decorate your Office doors or bulletin boards with signs expressing appreciation to your student employees, listing them by name.
  • Write personal thank-you notes or send letters to the parents of your student employees letting them know how you value their students for the work they do.
  • Prepare "care packages" to give to student workers with popcorn, trail mix, soft drinks, hot chocolate mix, etc.
  • Have full-time staff bring in different treats each day for student workers.
  • Take pictures and post them on a bulletin board listing the wonderful things they do.
  • Give the students a "Friendship Plant;" a cutting from a plant in the  office providing each student a living connection to the office.
  • Bring in a cake, cupcakes, or cookies decorated in honor of Student Employment Week.
  • Honor you student employees with a round of applause in your staff meeting.
  • Take your student employees to lunch in a Residence Hall Dining Service, the Tally in the Student Center, or the Retreat in Noyer Complex.
  • Place an ad in the Daily News recognizing your student's hard work.
  • Encourage departments to decorate their office doors or bulletin boards with posters expressing appreciation to their student workers and listing all their names.
  • Purchase gift certificates from the BSU Bookstore or local merchants.
  • Throw a pizza party, potluck, do-it-yourself sundae bar, foot-long sub party, pop popcorn, serve cake & punch, have a hamburger/hot dog BBQ, breakfast/lunch/hors d'oeuvre/dinner award ceremony for Student Employment week.
  • Provide snacks such as crackers and cheese, cookies, or trail mix.
  • Make "Pat On the Back" awards by tracing an outline of a hand on paper, make sufficient copies, write personal notes on each that tell why the student deserves a pat on the back.
  • Issue "Good Egg Awards;" plastic eggs filled with goodies or movie passes.
  • Have a "graffiti board" where students can write comments about their student employment experience, then put all in your newsletter.
  • Change your department telephone message to recognize student employees.
  • Bring some fresh fruit to the office for student workers.
  • Make certificates of appreciation and have them framed.  You can find good frames a the dollar store.  You can use this template if you wish.
  • Look around for "white elephant" items and use them to make fun awards to present to student employees.
  • Make a banner, poster, or bulletin board in recognition of your student workers.  Here's a template you can use, or make your own.
  • Send electronic thank-you notes to your students stating your appreciation.
  • Take time to say, "Thank you for all you do!"
