Frequently Asked Questions

Purchasing a computer or other technology equipment can be a big decision, so you want to make sure you have as much information as possible.
 
Not only do we have many products on hand for you to look at and work with, we have knowledgeable employees who can answer any of your questions.

We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) and the associated answers that can answer many of the common questions we are asked. 

  • General Store Information - Find answers to general questions about the Computer Store such as location, hours of operation, and extended hours.
      
  • Eligibility for Purchasing - Only valid students, faculty, and staff are able to purchase items at the Computer Store. All eligible customers must have a valid Ball State ID.
      
  • Payment Options -  The Computer Store accepts Visa, MasterCard, check, money orders, and Cardinal Cash. We do NOT accept cash. A valid driver’s license must be accompanied with the check.
      
  • Software Policies and Procedures - Learn about the policies relating to purchasing software from the Computer Store. Information on how some software can be downloaded for free is provided.
      
  • Purchasing a Computer - The Computer Store offers several great computers for sale from MPC/Gateway and Apple. You may have many questions about what to buy, so be sure and read through these FAQs for answers to some commonly asked questions about buying a computer.
      
  • Getting Help with Your Computer - If you have problems with your computer, you can contact the HelpDesk, make an appointment with TechTime, or stop by the iCare Corner. University Computing Services also has certified hardware repair technicians who can fix problems with any Apple computer or can fix Windows-based machines that are purchased at the Computer Store.
      
  • Reserving a Computer for Purchase - If you are planning to purchase a computer from us, you can call ahead and place it on hold or prepay for it.
      
  • Special Orders - If one of the computers that is in stock does not meet your needs or you just want a computer that is different than the ones carried in the store, you can custom order a computer. Software can be special ordered, too.
      
  • Residence Hall Needs - Both wireless and ethernet (wired) access to the Internet are available in the residence halls. We recommend that students with wireless access also are set up to use the ethernet.
      
  • Nursing Program PDAs - Only nursing student are able to purchase the PDAs sold at our store. Eligibility is dependent upon acceptance into the program.
      
  • Information for Distance Education Students - Some software products can be shipped to distance education students.
      
  • Shipping Information - Some products can be shipped to distance education students including Nursing PDAs and some software. We cannot ship computers.
