Excellence in Leadership is a developmental emerging leaders program which challenges students to analyze their leadership identity, examine multiple leadership styles, and work effectively in groups while actively engaging the Ball State and Muncie communities.
The program lasts four semesters and is divided into two phases. While students are encouraged to participate in all four semesters, it is not required. You can participate in EIL for course credit or as an extracurricular activity. Credits are awarded one per semester, for a total of four elective credits throughout the two-year program.
We offer 8 - 10 leadership development activities per semester. Participants are required to:
- Attend 7 activities per semester (activities include workshops and speakers)
- Participate in the Fall Retreat (an outdoor teambuilding retreat held at Camp Yale)
- Complete papers and other assignments (if taking the program for credit)
The majority of our events are on Monday nights from 7pm - 9pm in the Student Center. Our fall activities begin on Monday September 19 and conclude on Monday December 5. Our spring activities begin the first week of classes and end the first week of April. The full calendar is available here.
