Digital Corps

Check out the Digital Corps in action and learn more about Apple certifications

The Digital Corps is a group of professionally certified student media software experts housed in the Emerging Media PowerHouse (Ball Communication Building, room 208). The Digital Corps is based on a guild model that encourages the students to become certified and leaders in emerging technologies on different levels.

The Apprentice is the entry in the Corps.  To be a part of the Digital Corps at this level, students need to exhibit a high degree of basic knowledge and enthusiasm for technology or media by submitting a resume and completing a vigorous selection process.  Beginning fall semester 2011, Apprentices will provide support in the new tech center that is housed in Bracken Library.  By gaining experience working with university clients, the students will be encouraged to achieve certification and work up the ranks of the Digital Corps.  The next two levels of the Digital Corps are Specialists and Masters which are Undergraduate Fellows.

Specialists work on department projects in emerging technologies in the ball communication building. To be promoted to the Specialist level, each student must be interviewed by the Emerging Technologies staff.  Requirements for Specialist are:

  • 1 certification in a current application

The process is similar for promotion to the Master's level.  During the interview process, each student must provide a presentation to demonstrate the ability to communicate as well as to show an understanding of how applications are used in a project environment. Requirements for masters are:

  • 2 certifications (any two)

In order to keep their technical knowledge sharp and up-to-date, Digital Corps members keep their software certifications current and always strive to learn new ways to use emerging technologies.

Digital Corps Specialists and Masters contribute their creative skills and media software expertise to a variety of projects for both Ball State University and outside clients. If you would like to find out more information for consultation on your digital media project, please contact the department of emerging technologies.
