The Emerging Technologies training team offers a variety of learning opportunities and for-credit courses available. Registration for these courses is available through the Banner registration system and all classes are now available online only. These classes focus on learning media software applications and obtaining certifications, where available. Each course is designed to prepare students for certification; however, certification exams are optional.
The classes use lynda.com as a resource for the content. In January of 2011, Ball State partnered with lynda.com, an online learning library, to help the Ball State community familiarize themselves with numerous software applications. To obtain free access, you must connect to the learning library through www.bsu.edu/lynda and click on the lynda.com image. Access to the Lynda training videos is available anywhere you have internet connectivity.
Each course runs for the full fifteen weeks of the semester, for one academic credit hour. Each student has the opportunity to take these courses at an accelerated pace. Students are limited to three of these courses per semester, and six courses for the student's academic career.
Please note that the technical skills learned in these courses are meant to supplement the rest of your academic education. These courses will help you become comfortable with the software and technical aspects of media production, allowing you to focus more on the theory and storytelling methods taught in your major courses.
