Here are a couple of tools to help you stay focused and block the use of your phone while driving. Visit your provider’s store to explore other options that may be available for the phone you or your family uses.

  • For Blackberry and Android phones try Drive™ for free at is a mobile application that reads text (SMS) messages and emails aloud in real time and automatically responds without drivers touching the mobile phone.
  • Free for Android users is an app called Sprint Drive First. This app detects when you’re driving, silences your phone, and auto-replies to texts and calls for you. You can choose three driving apps (such as maps, navigation, or music) to keep unlocked. You can also choose “VIP contacts” that you can still contact or can still contact you, but everything else is locked and all other contacts get an auto-reply. Download here.
  • For the IPhone, you can download the Safe Driving Association Anti-Texting/Mobile Distraction App for free. This app engages a lock screen when it senses you are moving above a certain speed. It tracks when you ignore distractions and even stores the data to help you prove safe driving in the event of an accident. The lock screen also has the ability to be unlocked for emergency situations while you are moving. Download here.
  • Free for IPhone users, you can download the Dragon Dictation App. Dragon Dictation allows you to send emails, update your status updates, and send texts without typing on a keyboard. This will allow you to focus on the road and still stay in the loop!
