On August 24, 2010, Carlos E. Taylor became the 16th Ball State employee to complete the Professional Enhancement Program (PEP) in Information Processing sponsored by the Office of Learning and Development. Carlos Taylor has been the Adaptive Computer Technology Specialist for Ball State University since November 2003. He got his start in assistive technology by working as a student lab assistant in the Adaptive Computer Technology (ACT) lab during his freshman year at Ball State in 1997. By working in the ACT Lab, he found his passion for technology and changed his major from Telecommunications to Business Information Technology in which he earned a bachelor's degree in May 2002. Carlos also holds a Master of Science Degree in Information and Communication Sciences from Ball State which he completed in December of 2005.
The PEP certificate program began in 1995 and requires 12 semester hours of Ball State course work offered by the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management in the Miller College of Business. Electives include Microcomputer Applications for Business, Databases and Information Resource Management, Business Systems Application Development, and Business and Managerial Communications. PEP allows employees to upgrade and master information processing skills that enhance current job performance and opens the door for future employment opportunities. Participants are admitted to the university as non-degree students although employees currently enrolled as regular students are also eligible. Use of the Ball State University Fee Remission Program (free tuition) is available for eligible Ball State employees for these undergraduate classes.
