Speaker Series

Diversity Competencies in Higher Education:
Educating a Diverse Nation

Hosted by the Office of Institutional Diversity at Ball State University, this Speaker Series offers an opportunity for our faculty, graduate students, staff, and students to meet and interact with regionally and nationally recognized leaders in diversity and cultural competency in higher education.

The scheduled speakers are:

  • Tuesday, October 20, 2015 - Margo Jackson, Ph.D.
  • Tuesday, December 1, 2015 - Julius Pryor III
  • Tuesday, March 1, 2016 - Roger Worthington, Ph.D.
  • March 2016 - Marybeth Gasman, Ph.D.

Spring 2015

Faculty Spotlight


Dr. Ghezzi received a B.S. in Animal Science and Rangeland Management as well as an M.S. in Soil Science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 2007 and 2010, respectively.  She completed her Ph.D. in Soil Science at the University of Kentucky in 2014, specializing in soil mineralogy, pedology and chemistry.  She joined Ball State in August, 2014 as an Assistant Professor of Soil Science in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management where she infuses students with enthusiasm and knowledge of soil while researching sustainable agricultural practices across the great state of Indiana.  She is the adviser for the MANRRS (Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences) Chapter and the coach for the Collegiate Soil Judging Team.

Student Scholar Spotlight


  Robert Miles III is a junior at Ball State University. Robert is majoring in Natural Resources and Environmental Management with minors in leadership studies, and interpersonal relations. As a resident of Muncie, Robert is very prideful of his hometown, community, and University. As a student leader on campus he is the current Vice President of M.A.N.R.R.S, and is preparing for his new role as Vice President of the Black Student Association. As a leader in the community Robert is the public relations director of Indiana Black Expo- Muncie Chapter. Robert has always loved working with issues pertaining to diversity within his community and university and constantly finds fulfillment doing so.
