Profiles in Excellence

Nominated and selected by their peers, exemplary faculty are honored for their outstanding scholarly and creative achievements. The Researcher of the Year Award recognizes a faculty member for his or her contributions to research. The Creative Endeavor Award recognizes the contributions of members of the university community in the creative arts.

The 2010 Researcher of the Year Thomas Lauer, professor of biology and director of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries Center, has been honored for his invaluable research

on the yellow perch population and habitat in southern Lake Michigan, and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources uses his findings to manage the fish population.

Through her talent to communicate complex scientific ideas through original plays, Jennifer Blackmer, assistant professor of theatre, has been presented with the Creative Endeavor Award. Her dramatizations of scientific inquiry has led to productions concerning the atom bomb and genetic engineering.
