Angels for Life

As one of the community service projects of the Ball State Staff Council, the Angels for Life Committee has been working with the Indiana Blood Center since 2008 holding blood drives on campus. These blood drives are held two consecutive days in Pruis Hall each September, November, January, March and May.

Now accepting appointments for our May 21 and 22, 2014 blood drive which will be held at Pruis Hall from 9:00am - 4:00pm each day. Click here to make yours today!

Did you know?

  • Indiana Blood Center must recruit 620 donors each day to meet the patient needs at Indiana hospitals.
  • Indiana Blood Center supplies over 60 Indiana hospitals, including IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
  • Each whole blood donation is separated into its components to provide three transfusion-ready units, allowing a single donor to potentially save three lives.
  • Angels for Life is the single largest campus blood drive for Indiana Blood Center that collects more units of blood at their two-day drives than any other campus in Indiana! Click here to see statistics in the Star Press.

The AFL Committee works diligently to make each blood drive/each year more successful than the last. Our total number of blood units collected in 2011/2012 was 916 and for 2012/2013, our goal is 1,000 units. This small group of typically 5 BSU staff council members and an Indiana Blood Center representative (Kristine Pierce) are tasked with, but not limited to:

  • recruiting donations from local businesses to be used as giveaway/raffle incentives to help bring in donors
  • promoting/advertising each drive via various means such as, email blasts, newspapers, radio, posters, handouts, etc.
  • recruiting and scheduling numerous volunteers to help at the registration table
  • seeking out assistance from student organizations to help in various ways

Also, we recently collaborated with the Working Well Initiative to add donating at our drives as one of the items you can count toward your Working Well Incentive so whether you're a regular donor anyway, or have been thinking about it, why not help yourself out while at the same time SAVING LIVES...it only takes about an hour of your time! Fun!!

We're always looking for new ideas and/or referrals of businesses who might want to contribute to the cause by way of coupons or raffle items so if you can help us out with that please contact Lisa Kaufman. Thank you!
