Profile Kay Bales has served as Vice President for Student Affairs since July 2005. She began her work at Ball State in 1989 in the Student Activities office and eventually directed that office. Bales also held the post of Director of Leadership and Service Programs and later Associate Vice President for Student Affairs.
Bales earned a doctorate in adult and community education from Ball State. Her dissertation research examined the leadership practices of women in student affairs administration.
Bales has been an active leader in the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). She has chaired several NASPA Region IV-E committees, including the Fraternity and Sorority Network and the IV-E Leadership Network, which she founded and guided through its first two years. She is the past president for the Indiana Student Affairs Association and former chair of the annual state-wide conference. Bales is a past member and leader in the Association of Fraternity Advisors.
