Wireless Access for University Visitors, Partners, and Guests

Introduction

This document describes the procedures for utilizing guest wireless access at Ball State University.

 Guest Access

Guest access is intended for parents, conference attendees, library patrons, hotel guests, special event attendees, university partners and other temporary visitors to the university. For instructions to access the bsuguest wireless network view our BSU Guest How-To videos.

General Procedures

Guest Access Service: Guest access is intended for legal non-commercial usage by university guests having a legitimate need for temporary access as a visitor to the university.

Supported Computers/Devices: Use of the Ball State University Wireless Network requires a personal computer with wireless access. Almost all Windows and Macintosh computers with wireless capability should function properly with little or no configuration, however, if wireless access is important to an event or guest it is advisable to have a technical support contact available to resolve any difficulties.

Usage of the Wireless Guest Access: Usage is subject to adherence to all applicable university policies and procedures. Access is granted through these procedures for wireless access only. Access to other university resources (printers, databases, computer systems, services, etc.) is generally not permitted, even if it would appear that access is possible.

Student/Employee Guest Access: Guest access is not generally intended for use by students or employees of the university. Each employee or student should already have, or otherwise is eligible to receive, an official account in their name. This account should be used instead of guest access.

Audit of Guest Access System: Guest access usage under these procedures is subject to audit.

Misuse of Guest Access System: The intentional use of false names, aliases, or grossly incomplete or inaccurate information is a violation of the Information Technology Users’ Privileges and Responsibilities policy and may subject the sponsor to sanctions as provided in that policy, as well as other actions. If you have reason to believe such activity has occurred or is occurring, contact the Office of Information Security within University Computing Services by calling 765-285-1549. UCS Operations will route you to the appropriate contact(s).

Assistance & Support: Please contact the HelpDesk at 765-285-1517 or helpdesk@bsu.edu, if you have questions or would like help connecting to the bsuguest wireless network.
