Students: Services and Information

Students are encouraged to review the current Technology Guide to learn about technology resources available to them.  In addition, below is a list that includes information about some of the University provided applications and software that are most commonly used by students.  If you have a question or need assistance with a technology-related issue, contacting the Technology HelpDesk is a great place to start. 

  • Antivirus: One of the most important things you can do to protect your computer is to run an updated antivirus program.
  • Blackboard: A Web-based content management system that allows faculty to provide course content to students and allows students and faculty to communicate and collaborate.
  • Communications Center (CommCenter): The Communications Center streamlines internal communications at Ball State, providing a more efficient and effective method for the university to share and receive timely announcements, news, and information.
  • Course Evaluations:  Online evaluations can be submitted during a designated time period.
  • E-mail:  Microsoft Exchange e-mail accounts are provided for faculty, staff, and students.  
  • iLocker:  An online digital account that lets you store documents, pictures, and more that you can then access from any place. 

To assist students utilize technology, Unified Technology Support offers services for students, including those listed below:

  • Computer Labs:  Learn about the general labs, testing labs and adapative technology lab managed by UTS.
  • Concierge Desk: Staffed with knowledgeable and courteous full-time and student staff, the Concierge Desk is your first stop when visiting the Tech Center in Bracken Library, room 101.
  • Equipment and Projectionist Services : EPS loans audiovisual equipment to Ball State faculty, staff, and students. 
  • Hardware Repair : Hardware Repair provides repair services for Windows-based and Mac computers owned by the university and used by faculty and staff. 
  • Technology HelpDesk :  Contact the Technology HelpDesk for assistance with a technology issue or to get answers to your technology questions. Submit a web ticket at www.bsu.edu/helpdesk, give us a call at 765-285-1517, or stop by the Tech Center in BL 101. 
  • Technology Store (Computer Store)  : View, test, purchase, or order the latest computers, software, and accessories from companies such as Microsoft, Apple, Lenovo, and HP.
  • TechTime : TechTime Hardware/Software Support offers assistance to currently enrolled students who are having difficulties with their personal computers and resolving those issues. TechTime Application Support offers help to faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students who need assistance using a software application for a Ball State project.
