Ball State's two-year process to secure continuing institutional accreditation is nearing completion following the peer review team's recent campus visit. An accreditation decision is expected by April 2014 from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Institutional accreditation is a voluntary initiative that includes a comprehensive, critical evaluation of the university’s mission, goals, programs, and resources. Accreditation assures students and the public that the institution meets quality standards set by an independent, nongovernmental organization committed to enhancing higher education. The accreditation process helps the university ensure accountability and plan for improvement. Ball State has been accredited since 1925 and received its most recent 10-year accreditation in 2004.
