A More Distinctive University

Dear Friends,

Our world is changing faster than ever before. Twenty years from now, the best colleges and universities will be those that have a plan today to adapt to the changing needs of the 21st century. At Ball State, we have a plan not only to sustain our relevance in a changing world but to become a more distinctive university.

We will dramatically expand immersive learning opportunities—the truly unique learning experiences at Ball State that, until recently, benefited a relatively small portion of students. These opportunities allow students to transform traditional classroom information into knowledge, judgment, and—ultimately—into action. They will become ubiquitous on campus. Students will learn to develop real-world solutions to real-world problems.

And what better problems to solve than those faced by our local businesses and communities across Indiana? We will expand immersive learning experiences for students to work side-by-side with local business and community leaders across the state. Students have transformative experiences when they synergize classroom information with real-life application.

Without delay, we have begun implementation of our Strategic Plan. The Year One: Measures of Progress have just a sampling of the strides we are making less than a year into implementation. These accounts bring the goals in the plan to life and directly relate to the outcome measures.

By 2012, our strides today will move us well along as an institution. We will be offering more distinctive educational experiences that will prepare our students for a changing world. They will have the skills they need to gain and apply new knowledge throughout their lifetimes. The progress that we are making today will make an impact on the Indiana workforce that will span the entire century.

I am interested in your thoughts on our plan and the progress we are making. Please contact me.

Sincerely,
Jo Ann M. Gora
