Getting Started

There are many different labels that you will wear during your time here at Ball State.

Everyone starts out as a freshman and puts on that label until 30 credit hours are earned. As a freshman, you may have more questions about course scheduling, the University Core Curriculum (UCC), available majors, or deciding on a major.

Once a student has 30 credit hours or more, that freshman label is peeled off. As an upperclass student, your needs may be more focused on immersive learning experiences and graduation.

Regardless of your class status, you may also be a nontraditional student, student-athlete, transfer student, an undecided student, or part of the Honors College. Who your academic advisor is and what office he/she is housed in will be based on your academic status and the label that you are currently wearing.
