Often, students are asked to access information beyond the classroom through a web based tool called Blackboard
. Using Blackboard as a virtual community, instructors can provide an opportunity for independent learning and a variety of learning resources. Academic advisors often open an "advising community" through Blackboard to have an additional way for students to stay informed and receive information specific to their majors. Students are encouraged to visit their advisor's community and pay special attention to announcements posted there.
