The Emerging Media PowerHouse is a high-end, Macintosh OS based computer lab designed to provide top-notch media software, hardware, and support to the entire Ball State community. It is in room 208 of the Ball Communication Building and is open a wide range of hours. The regular hours of operation for the lab are:
- Monday - Thursday: 9 a.m. - 1 a.m.
- Friday: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
- Saturday: Noon - 5 p.m.
- Sunday: 3 p.m. - 11 p.m.
During all hours of operation, the lab is staffed by at least two members of the Digital Corps in order to provide users with a high level of customer support. In addition to aiding users during lab hours, the Digital Corps also teaches a variety of media software certification courses and hosts software-expert hours to offer an even higher level of support for specific software applications.
Students, faculty, and staff working in the PowerHouse have access to a variety of industry standard software for all types of media. Available software applications include Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection, Final Cut Studio, iLife, Digidesign Pro Tools, Maya, and DTS Surround Encoder.
In addition to top-notch software, the PowerHouse provides access to a wide range of hardware technology, including:
- Mac Pro computers featuring two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors and 8GB of RAM to provide outstanding processing speeds
- Sony DSR-11 DVCAM decks to provide the capability to import/export content of DVCAM, and miniDV tapes
- Sony HVR-M10U HDV deck to provide the capability to import/export content of HDV tapes
- Oxygen 8 MIDI controllers to provide a piano-keyboard and control surface Musical Instrument Digital Interface, allowing interface with digital audio applications
- Digidesign ProTools LE Mbox systems to provide access to industry-standard systems in digital audio mixing
- Sony 14-inch Trinitron Color Monitors to provide the capability to monitor the image and color output of video media projects
- Digidesign ProControl control surface with Expansion Unit offers a tactile interface with ProTools HD systems. ProControl includes eight motorized faders, as well as expansion unit with dedicated function buttons and dual-input joysticks for further customized control and feel.
- Digidesign Control24 control surface to provide a tactile interface with ProTools HD systems through 24 motorized, automated faders
- Dedicated recording booth (100 square feet), integrated with aforementioned ProTools HD system, allowing audio recording and voice-over/ADR capabilities with headphone monitoring
- Microphones, including Shure SM57 and Shure KSM332
- Canon LIDE30 Scanners to provide the capability to optically scan paper documents, photographs, or transparencies
- Wacom Cintiq 21UX, which provides a 21-inch LCD monitor that excepts direct input from a digital pen to allow users to draw directly on the screen
