Opportunities for Faculty

To accelerate our leadership in emerging media, Ball State is undertaking an aggressive strategy to ensure that faculty have access to the support, resources, and funding they need to pursue emerging media projects and research. The key programs devoted to achieving this goal include:

Emerging Media Research Council
Led by the Sponsored Programs Office (SPO) and the Emerging Media Initiative, this council includes members from all seven academic colleges. It coordinates emerging media research agendas and allocates pilot research project funding. Members include individuals with expertise and vision in emerging media research, creative applications, and commercialization. SPO will coordinate the pilot funding process.

Center, Institute, and Lab Development
The Emerging Media Initiative identifies overall strategic research and creative application opportunities for Ball State and administers funds in support of those efforts. An initial research initiative will be developed in the area of science of media learning during 2009. Additional research initiatives are anticipated in subsequent years.

Emerging Media Faculty Fellows
This program provides incentives and start-up funding for hiring faculty across the curriculum with strength and expertise in the use and study of emerging media. As hiring processes progress and potential candidates are identified, feel free to contact us.

Coordinated Teaching Support
Faculty have access to pedagogical and technical support for e-classroom and immersive learning projects with an emerging media component. The goal is to provide an inspirational “playground” to acclimate and inspire faculty and students in media endeavors. This element is under development.

Emerging Media Student Fellows
Building on the successes of our Building Better Communities Fellows program (formerly Business Fellows), this hands-on, team-based experience enables students and faculty to pursue high-profile projects across the state that focus on emerging media solutions.

Students have the opportunity to earn academic credit while gaining practical experience in the emerging media industry and building relationships with Indiana employers. The Fellows program is open to all juniors, seniors, and graduate students. The program is coordinated through Building Better Communities.
