Tours are available to local school groups. A Ball State graduate assistant will lead you and your group through a variety of activities on the property. Some of the activities include tree and wildflower identification, aquatic insect identification, soil and water quality testing, and other basic ecological concepts. Your students will leave with a greater understanding of their environment and a wonderful outdoor experience that they will remember for years to come.
If you wish to lead your own session, you must first attend a teachers' workshop that will introduce you to the facilities, trails, and safety regulations. Curriculum boxes are also available in the Hults Classroom. These tubs contain materials relevant to carrying out programs centered on the wetland, prairie, and forest. They are geared to students in K-8 and include items such as field guides, magnifying lenses, and insect nets.
Guided programs and facility usage are offered free of charge. Visitation to Hults Environmental Learning Center is by appointment. For more information, or to schedule a visit, please contact Connie Tyner or Joshua Hapner.
