A United States State Department Grant for $1,000,000, initiated by the Center for International Development in collaboration with the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies as well as Ball State faculty, was recently funded in August of 2012. This grant is for a three-year period and will be utilized in the formation of a partnership between Ball State University and Quaid-i-Azam (QiA) University in Islamabad,
The overall mission of the partnership is to facilitate cultural growth and understanding between faculty and students at both universities and to raise the capacity of the Area Study Centre for Africa, North and South America at QiA to provide a high-quality postgraduate program in studies of the United States. The main role of Ball State’s Center for Peace and Conflict Studies will be to help foster cultural understanding and exchange, and to coordinate the research training provided to the QiA faculty and students.
Travel will occur as a two-way relationship, with QiA staff and students visiting Ball State University for intensive workshops and BSU faculty traveling to Pakistan to conduct on-site training and collaborate on research.
A total of six BSU faculty members will travel to Pakistan to deliver instruction and training and collaborate with QiA faculty members on research projects.
