Getting Started with Blackboard 

Q. I recently requested my course and my students emailed me that they cannot see my course. What do I do?
A. Follow these steps to make your course available to students.

  • Open the course
  • Go to the Control Panel
  • Click on Properties
  • Go to item #3 Set Availability
  • Select Yes
  • Click SUBMIT

 Q. I combined several courses including one that was not supposed to be included in this course. How do I fix it?
A. Unfortunately, once courses are combined they cannot be "uncombined" by the instructor. You will need to call the UTS Helpdesk at  765-285-1517 or submit an online help ticket directly to the UTS Helpdesk.

Content Management

Q. I cannot find the tool that I want to use. Where is it?
A. You just need to turn it on!

  • Go to the Control Panel
  • Click on Customization
  • Click on Tool Availability
  • Scroll through the tool list
  • Check the box or boxes next to the tool or tools that you want to turn on
  • Click SUBMIT

NOTE:  Follow the same steps and uncheck the box to turn the tool off.

Q. Can a YouTube video be embedded into my Blackboard course?
A. Yes, as an example, you can add it to an assignment.

  • Go to the YouTube
  • Search for and select the YouTube video you want in your course
  • Click the SHARE button under the video
  • Click EMBED
  • Copy the code
  • Open Blackboard and go an assignment
  • Click on the Content Editor HTML tool
  • Paste in the YouTube code
  • Add grading points to the assignment
  • Click SUBMIT to embed the video within the assignment

Q. My students say that they do not know how to submit an assignment in Blackboard. Is there a help video for students?
A.
Yes, the Blackboard On Demand Learning Center for Students training videos are an excellent resource for your students.

Q. Can I use the tests supplied by the textbook publisher?
A. Blackboard partners with McGraw-Hill, Pearson MyLab/Mastering, Cengage Learning MindLinks, WileyPLUS and Barnes & Noble Textbook Tool. You can learn more about the tools that each publisher offers in your Blackboard course by calling your publisher representative. That person will give you specific instructions for using their textbook and tests with Blackboard.

Q. I've attended a lot of Blackboard training sessions at BSU this year. Is there a place where I can print my training history list?
A.  Yes, you can create a complete list of your training - a Professional Development Registry report.  A link to the report can be found on the iLearn website.

  • Go to Learning Technology Resources website
  • Click Personal Training History
  • Enter your BSU username and password
  • You will view all training sessions in which you were registered
  • Click Comprehensive Training Registry link
  • Choose Date Range
  • Fill in the specific dates
  • Click the Create Registry button.
