About the Department

Ball State has been offering courses in anthropology since 1955. What began as a few courses within the social science program has grown into the Department of Anthropology in the College of Sciences and Humanities.

Since graduating our first students in 1970, it has been our objective to offer an education that can serve as a background for a wide range of careers. We strive to broaden students’ perspective and understanding of the cultural, social, and biological nature of humankind throughout time and throughout the world.

Our commitment to quality teaching, research, and service is reflected in our department's history and missionfaculty and staff, high-tech facilities, and programs of study. Our students, faculty, and staff have won several awards and recognitions for their outstanding work.
