Art Admissions

To pursue a major in art involves a selection process that requires the submission of both the university application and art program application. Applicants are screened on the basis of:

All students admitted to the Department of Art complete a common first-year program of study comprised of required courses in drawing, design, computer art, and art history. The number of students admitted to the first-year program is limited with the ability of the department to provide studio space and sections of required courses; and to achieve optimum student/faculty ratio.

The Department of Art awards a limited number of performance scholarships to first time freshmen who have been admitted to the university and are entering fall semester. To be eligible for scholarship monies, students must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 and pursue a major program in the Department of Art. Scholarship applications are reviewed on the basis of portfolio of work, essay, resume, recommendation form, and academic record.

If you are a student who is currently enrolled at Ball State pursuing another major and would like to become an art major, you can declare a pre-art major and begin taking first-year foundation courses in the spring or summer and later apply submitting college-level coursework.

If you are transferring from another college or university, please visit our admission information for transfer students.

Transcripts submitted to the Office of Admissions at Ball State will be reviewed as part of the scholarship and art program application. Students must be admitted to Ball State before final acceptance into the art program.
