Drs. Dickin and Wang attended the American Society of Biomechanics (ASB) Conference in Long Beach, CA August 10-13, 2012. They were joined by Graduate Assistants: Eduardo Beltran, Scott Brown, Matt McClain and Rachel Surowiec who each presented posters on their individual theses.

Five of our Graduate Assistants presented their thesis projects at the Ball State University Student Symposium.
Scott Brown: The effects of total ankle replacement on ankle joint mechanics during walking.
Kate Faust: The effect of whole-body vibration on gait parameters in children with cerebral palsy.
Barb Schornstein: Biomechanical adjustments over time of an exhaustive run: comparison of compression tights and running shorts.
Rachel Surowiec: Energy expenditure and muscular activation patterns through active sitting on compliant surfaces.
Keith Suttle: The effect of the catch phase on power output while performing the Olympic power clean.

Second-year graduate assisant, Kathryn Faust applied for and received a BSU ASPiRE grant for her project entitled, "The Effects of Whole-Body Vibration on Walking in Adults with Cerebral Palsy". Congratulations Kate!

Dr. Clark Dickin attended the Gerontological Society of America Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA where he delivered his poster presentation on "Meta-Analysis of the Effects of Exercise and Use of Nintendo Wii for Reducing Depression among Older Adults".

Dr. Henry Wang and Jeff Frame attended the International Foot and Ankle Biomechanics Community (i-FAB) Conference in Seattle at the University of Washington September 16-18, 2010 to give a poster presentation entitled "Gait analysis after bilateral ankle replacement - a 12 month follow-up case study".

ASB Conference

The 34th annual meeting of the American Society of Biomechanics was recently held in Providence, RI August 18-21, 2010. Biomechanics faculty, Dr. Henry Wang and three of our graduate students attended. Dr. Henry Wang delivered his poster presentation on "Load Carriage Increases Mechanical Loading Rates During Walking".

For the second year in a row, a Biomechanics Lab Graduate Assistant wins the Keys/Litten/Smith award at the recent March 30 Student Symposium. Congratulations to Scott Dueball for this accomplishment with his entry: The Effect of Height on Musculoskeletal Injury While Performing Drop Landings.

Congratulations to Scott Dueball and Barbara Schornstein, second year graduate students, who applied for and were awarded ASPiRE grants to assist in the funding of their thesis projects!
