Building Careers

There are many reasons students go to college, but one of the biggest is to prepare for an exciting and rewarding career. Ball State's College of Architecture and Planning (CAP) helps aspiring architects, landscape architects, urban planners, urban designers, and historic preservationists find great jobs and grow into professional leaders.

It does so through nationally accredited degree programs, world-class faculty, and state-of-the-art facilities that get students ready for a broad range of opportunities in the public and private sectors. Students are guided through both practical and theoretical learning, and they grow to master innovative design that synthesizes art and science.

The foundation of an enriching career is solid undergraduate and graduate programming:

  • The First-Year Program introduces undergraduate students to all the disciplines in the college before asking them to choose a major.
  • The first level of specialized education is a bachelor’s degree in architecture, landscape architecture, or urban planning and development. For many, this is all that’s needed to launch into an exciting and diverse career.
  • Master’s degrees in architecture, landscape architecture, urban and regional planning, historic preservation, and urban design sustain lifelong careers through further knowledge, experience, and enrichment.

The college blends theoretical learning with a wide range of experiential opportunities that prepare students well for the professional world that awaits them. Among the highlights:

  • studio classes in all disciplines, and personal studio work space for every student
  • hands-on and immersive learning projects for actual clients and communities
  • internships and student professional organizations
  • lectures, exhibits, and teleconferences by noted professionals
  • international field studies and national/regional field trips
  • cutting-edge technology in digital simulation, digital fabrication, GIS, and media labs
  • wood, metal, and plastics shop
  • architecture library and slide collection
  • historic drawings and documents archive
  • exhibition gallery and CAP Indianapolis Center
