Community Knowledge

Miguel San Miguel, a visiting assistant professor in architecture, acted as lead designer on two award-winning libraries that aim to teach their communities about environmental design.

Lake View Library, located in Los Angeles, California, maintains a primary function of showcasing the benefits of a sustainable building program.  Frequent public reviews, energy modeling and an integrated design and performance process allowed goals to be effectively achieved.  Lake View Library is the first LEED Platinum building in the city of Los Angeles.

Sun Valley Library, also located in Los Angeles, functions as a symbolic and literal gateway to knowledge for the community.  The library is the first LEED Gold building sponsored by the city of Los Angeles.

Miguel San Miguel teaches introductory design studios and building technology courses at the College of Architecture and Planning.  In addition to teaching, he also maintains research projects through various grants and fellowships.
