Dr. Angulo earned her professional degree in architecture and urban planning in 1979 from Ricardo Palma University in Lima, Peru, and her doctoral degree in architecture from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands in 1991. Her doctoral dissertation explored the use of digital technology in the integration of professional practice and education in architecture.

Dr. Antonieta Angulo joined the Department of Architecture at Ball State University in 2007. As an Associate Professor of Practice she has continuously taught design studios at graduate and undergraduate levels. In particular, every fall semester she offers a signature studio known as “Las Americas Virtual Design Studio” which brings together, through the use of digital communication technology several studios geographically distributed throughout the American continents, as well as practicing architects in internationally recognized design firms acting as virtual reviewers. Beyond design studios, Dr. Angulo has also taught and coordinated several courses in the field of design communications, digital design, computer techniques, and fabrication.

Before joining Ball State, Dr. Angulo served in similar capacity in the Department of Architecture at Texas A&M University. In recognition of her leadership in the early development and use of digital technology in design practice and education she received the College Teaching Excellence Award from the Association of Former Students of Texas A&M University in 2006.

Dr. Angulo combines the teaching and scholarship of the architectural discipline. As her CV may further describe Dr. Angulo is an active scholar constantly publishing work in peer-review venues such as the Design Communications Association (DCA), and international conferences such as those sponsored by the Iberoamerican Society for Computer Graphics (SIGRADI), and the Association for European Computer Aided Architectural Design Education (ECAADE). She has co-edited the book of proceedings of the IX International Conference of SIGRADI, and a related issue of the International Journal for Architectural Computing (IJAC, Issue 3, Vol. 4).

Dr. Angulo’s current research about virtual reality in support of architectural education has been subject of several publications and the corresponding design projects are featured in the blog of the CAP VR Environment.
