Admission Process

U.S. applicants must apply to Ball State University via the Graduate School.

  • Online application and application fee
  • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.75 (on a 4.0 grade scale)
  • Original transcripts (sent from the institution)

International applicants must apply to Ball State University via the Rinker Center for International Programs,

  • Complete the International Student Application
  • Submit the $40 application fee
  • Submit official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score (Ball State’s code is 1051), unless government sponsored. Also, students with academic degrees from native English speaking countries (Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom) do not have to submit TOEFL scores. Students who have attended school for academic study for a period of one or more years are exempt on a case-by-case basis. Students must submit official transcripts showing proof of attendance and satisfactory academic progress during their study.
  • Submit official transcripts and diploma from your undergraduate degree
  • Provide official one year financial support documents
  • Photocopy of passport

Departmental Admission Materials

Application materials below, as well as questions relating to the below materials, should be addressed to Julie Kratzner.

Items 1-4 must be sent electronically in PDF format to Julie Kratzner.

  1. Resume or CV
  2. Statement of purpose: Why do you want to come to Ball State University to earn a master of architecture degree and enter the profession of historic preservation?
  3. Writing sample from an academic course. Example of your best work. No specific length or subject.
  4. Three signed letters of recommendation. Recommenders must sign their letter, scan and e-mail it to Julie Kratzner.

The GRE (Graduate Record Exam) is not required.

The departmental deadline to receive all application materials is February 15, 5 p.m.
