Graduate Landscape Architecture

How to Apply

A bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university is required for admission to the master of landscape architecture (MLA) program. Most undergraduate degrees are accepted. Once admitted, you will be placed in the appropriate program of study based on your academic background and experience.

Admission is based on your individual qualifications. Our department requires a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students with GPAs between 2.5 and 2.9 may apply for admission with probationary status. See Ball State’s equal opportunity and affirmative action policy.

Application Process

Applicants must meet the admission requirements of both the Department of Landscape Architecture and Ball State's Graduate School. You may apply for admission online. The graduate application fee is $50. The application fee may be paid by credit card or e-check immediately after submitting the online application.

First-time applicants to Ball State must request one official transcript from the institution that granted your baccalaureate degree and each institution attended for undergraduate and graduate work. Ask the registrar at each institution to send your transcripts to the Graduate School, Ball State University, Muncie, IN 47306. It is not necessary to request Ball State transcripts or transcripts of work completed anywhere before any Ball State degree.

International Students: Students who are not U.S. residents must apply for admission to Ball State through the Rinker Center for International Programs. Credits from secondary schools, colleges, universities, and other educational institutions outside the U.S. must be evaluated by the Rinker Center staff before acceptance.

Application Deadlines

Transfer Credit
Academic credits may be transferred, if approved, for graduate-level courses taken at accredited institutions. You also may substitute electives for required courses if these have been fulfilled by prior academic work or practical experience. Each request for transfer credit or course substitutions is considered individually on its own merits.

Financial Aid
Stafford Student Loans, scholarships, and other financial aid programs also are available to help graduate students meet the costs of pursuing a degree. For more information on these options, contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. MLA applicants also are automatically considered for two scholarship programs that provide a small stipend.
