Urban Planning

Our program is all about getting real world, hands-on experience in and out of the classroom. By completing a required internship with a professional planning or land development firm, you will learn new skills and make new connections that will help you get a job.

All students in the bachelor of urban planning and development (BUPD) program must participate in a 10-week internship after completing their third year. Summer internships in planning agencies, community development departments, and similar settings are the most common.

If you are pursuing your master of urban and regional planning (MURP), the internship requires 200 hours and is completed during the summer between the first and second years of your degree.

Internships are arranged with the assistance and approval of our department and may be undertaken after completing the department’s mandatory portfolio review process.
