Hands-On Learning

In the College of Applied Sciences and Technology, CAST, we practice what we teach, and our students apply the knowledge they learn. Most of our degree programs include a hands-on component like a clinical or practicum as part of the curriculum, allowing students to apply and expand on the skills they've learned in the classroom. Many programs also include a required internship, which gives students professional experience in their chosen field of study.

CAST is home to the Child Study Center. Students and faculty have the opportunity to practice their skills while making a positive contribution to the community.  Students in our child development courses have direct interaction with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. The center provides safe, developmentally appropriate child care for children in the community and enables Ball State students to observe firsthand the developmental stages of children.
