Everybody wins through the Center for Information and Communication Science’s (CICS) real-world projects and institutes. Students take part in special projects for information and communication companies, gaining valuable experience and getting to know people in the business.
The companies involved get access to smart and well-trained problem-solvers (that could be you!) to help sort through their problems and issues. Faculty and the department itself benefit from these regular connections with colleagues in the real world, who sometimes reciprocate by recruiting on campus and supporting the center through donations.
These experiences often come through the work of the
Applied Research Institute (ARI), located in the Ball Communication Building. The ARI includes
six industry-supported laboratories that play a large role in the graduate academic program while also conducting research projects for businesses and governments.
Four CICS institutes, led by faculty, add more opportunities for real-world experience, including the
Human Factors Institute, the
Institute of Wireless Innovation, the
Software Testing Institute, and the
Internetworking Academy and Training Institute.
