Admission Requirements and How to Apply
Two steps will lead you into graduate studies within the Center for Information and Communication Sciences (CICS).
1. You must be accepted into the Ball State University Graduate School.
Applying to the Graduate School
You can pick up an application in the Graduate School Office, West Quad Room 100 or apply online. Turn in the application to the Graduate School and arrange to send official transcripts from any institution other than Ball State where you have taken college-level course work. The minimum GPA for regular admission is 2.75.
You’ll be notified in writing when you have been accepted, and the Graduate School will then forward your application and admission letter to CICS.
Note: International students must apply through the Rinker Center for International Programs.
2. You must be accepted in CICS.
Applying to CICS
You will be required to submit a one- to two-page statement of goals to CICS in order to be considered for admission. This should be emailed to cics@bsu.edu or mailed to CICS Director, BC 221, Ball State University, Muncie, IN 47306. There is no separate application form for admission.
How Long It Takes for Admission
It depends upon the time of year, but the Graduate School typically processes applications within two weeks of receiving all required information. You can check on the status by calling 765-285-1297.
CICS, meanwhile, usually makes admission decisions on a monthly basis once all materials have been received. You can find out about your CICS admission status by calling Amy Clevenger at 765-285-1889.
A limited number of part-time students will be allowed to begin their studies in the spring semester. But if you expect to finish in three semesters, we recommend you start the program in the fall.
