Demetrios Skalkotos holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Management Information Systems and a Master of Science from the Center for Information and Communication Sciences (CICS). He was one of seven graduates of the CICS program in 1987. As the Senior Vice President of Global Corporate Services for NASDAQ OMX, he has great advice for those venturing out into the workplace.
Skalkotos has been working with NASDAQ OMX for about 12 years and made his way up the ladder through internal promotions. Skalkotos said, “I started out at one level, and by being successful at running the Midwest region, I received the opportunity for this entrepreneurial position.”
Skalkotos said that the skills and aptitudes he developed in CICS have prepared him for success in the industry, noting that the program improves time management, business acumen, attention to detail, and prepares graduates to communicate with people at all levels from a social networking perspective. Skalkotos summarized the program’s values according to three main pillars: “Good knowledge of technology, communication with people, and networking.”
Skalkotos maintains that “it’s about evolution, not revolution.” For those who have motivation and talent, but might not know what to do in terms of job seeking, Skalkotos says that as you grow, so too will your motivation and knowledge, as you will learn from your experiences and find out more about yourself.
Skalkotos always knew that he wanted to work in sales. He liked technology but instead of creating binary codes, he wanted to use the concepts of technology and apply those concepts to products and services that customers would be willing to purchase.
Skalkotos currently resides in New Jersey, having recently moved from Chicago, and he commutes to Manhattan where NASDAQ is located. He has been married to Christine Skalkotos for 11 years, and they have 4 children. Nikolas is 5 ½ years old and is in kindergarten, Sophia will be 2 at the end of October, and twins Marina and Zachari are both 5 months old.
