Two steps will lead you into graduate studies within the Center for Information and Communication Sciences (CICS). First, you must be accepted into the
Ball State University Graduate School. Once that’s accomplished, CICS will consider your application for the information and communication sciences program.
Applying to the Graduate School
You can pick up an application or
apply online. The brochure outlining admission criteria can be picked up from CICS in the
Ball Communication Building, room 221, or you can visit the
Graduate School's admissions area. Turn in the application to the Graduate School and arrange to send official transcripts from any institution other than Ball State where you have taken college-level course work. (You’ll also need to have copies sent directly to CICS).
You’ll be notified in writing when you have been accepted, and the Graduate School will then forward your application and admission letter to CICS.
Note: International students must apply through the
Rinker Center for International Programs.
Applying to CICS
Request an application by calling 765-285-1889 or stop by CICS in Ball Communication Building, room 221, to pick up an information packet. You’ll be asked to submit a one- to two-page statement of goals and a second copy of all of your transcripts from institutions other than Ball State. And you’ll need a minimum grade point average of 2.75.
How Long It Takes for Admission It depends upon the time of year, but the Graduate School typically processes applications within two weeks of receiving all required information. You can check on the status by calling 765-285-1297.
CICS, meanwhile, usually makes admission decisions on a monthly basis once all materials have been received. You can find out about your CICS admission status by calling
Amy Clevenger at 765-285-1889.
A limited number of part-time students will be allowed to begin their studies in the spring semester. But if you expect to finish in three semesters, we recommend you start the program in the fall.
