Chemists help produce the tools we use, the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and the medicine we take.
One of the best things about being a chemist is getting to mix chemicals together to make new compounds. We do a lot of that and more on our
high-tech chemical intrumentation.
But chemistry is more than mixing chemicals. We figure out why chemicals react the way they do, and we can explain the how, what, when, and why of many things in our everyday life.
We like to have fun in our department, which means a lot of
hands-on training. As an incoming student, you will be able to do
full-fledged research with your
professors. About 80 percent of our undergraduate chemistry majors have participated in research.
Our
small classes are exciting and challenging. In your classes, you will tackle subjects such as chemical analysis, inorganic chemistry, and biochemistry.
We are ranked by the
American Chemical Society (ACS) as the largest producer of ACS-accredited chemistry majors in the state of Indiana. We also rank in the top 10 percent in the nation in the number of graduating
ACS-accredited chemistry majors.
Our graduates go on to choose
amazing careers. They’re working in classrooms, labs, government, and even sales and marketing.
