For
Rusty Shoultz, a critical care air transport RN in the Air Force Reserves, Ball State University’s “military friendliness” meant he could continue to pursue an
online master of science in nursing when he was deployed to Afghanistan. “When I was tasked to deploy,” says Shoultz, “the staff sprang into action to assure my needs were met and that I would not have to sit out a semester.”
Navy aviation electronics technician 2nd class Todd Kunkel needed a flexible online bachelor’s degree completion program since he serves on the U.S.S. George Washington six months a year. “I’ve always told my co-workers that Ball State’s program is made for us,” says Kunkel, who also wanted a school whose reputation would help him successfully transition to civilian life.
The stories of Shoultz and Kunkel illustrate why GI Jobs, the premier magazine for military personnel who are transitioning into civilian life, has designated Ball State a Military Friendly School for four years running. The designation means that when it comes to assisting students, from application through graduation, Ball State is in the top 20 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools in the country.
