Independent Learning Program

Independent learning courses are one of the most flexible and convenient ways for you to earn college credit, allowing you to take on an educational program at your own pace.

Nearly 200 undergraduate courses are offered through the program, including many in Tiers 1 and 2 of the new University Core Curriculum. The courses are offered in a 10-week format.

Main Campus Students
Independent learning courses are used by main-campus students who want flexibility in their schedule. Main-campus students simply need to review the schedule of classes for your desired semester and register for classes.

Online-Only Students
Independent learning courses are also taken by Ball State students studying online who cannot come to campus.

For online students, you may complete the following degrees through the Independent Learning Program:

You may search a list of available independent learning classes in the Online and Distance Education schedule of classes. This schedule lists all the courses currently offered by distance education—not just independent learning courses. You can identify independent learning courses by looking at the column marked "delivery method."
