When Do Courses Begin and End?

You can sign-up for 10-week independent learning (IL) classes during the same add/drop period the university has for traditional, semester-based classes. These dates are listed on the Registrar's website.

However, online IL classes give you more flexibility about when your start date is.

For fall 2012, you can add an IL course to your schedule through 5 p.m. (Eastern time) August 24. However, you can choose your start date to be any day between August 20 and September 14. (Registration and start dates for spring 2013 will be announced later during the fall semester.)

Course End Date
Because the start date varies, this means your end date will be customized to you.

Current students can find this end date in the MyBSU Self-Service Banner system, where there is only one location where you can view these correct dates. You can review them by following this path:

  • Log into MyBSU
  • Click on the “Self-Service Banner” link.
  • Under the “Student” tab choose “Registration.”
  • Chose “Active Registration” to view the exact start date and expected completion date for your 10-week course(s).

Do not rely on the “Quick Schedule” or “Full Detail Schedule” links in Banner, the dates listed there are NOT correct for your IL courses, but instead reflect the traditional academic semester in which the courses are being taken.

Extensions of Courses
Extensions of time are not given. If you do not complete the course by the course expiration date or do not drop or withraw from the course by semester deadlines, you will receive a failing grade.
