Insurance Education Institute

June 18-21, 2012

The free Insurance Education Institute for middle and high school teachers is a content-based course that will inform your understanding of all forms of insurance, how the industry works, and—most importantly—what careers are available for your students.

You will learn how to incorporate topics on insurance into existing courses or to develop new stand-alone risk management and insurance courses. As part of the course, you will develop lesson plans to use in your classroom based on state standards, plus share ideas and information with colleagues—all of this from one of the Midwest's best universities

Best of all—it is free to all those who are accepted into the program!

The institute is funded by the Griffith Insurance Education Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization located in Indianapolis, whose goal is to improve the understanding of insurance and its role in society through the education of teachers and students. The course is taught by two of Ball State's top business professors.

How the Course is Delivered
You can choose one of two options:

  • Hybrid: You start your studies with an online course and finish by coming to the Ball State campus in Muncie, Indiana, from June 18-21 for on-campus instruction. The online course runs April 1-June 17, but you choose the date you wish to start.
  • Online-only: You take the entire course online from April 1-July 20 (you choose the start date).

Your Expenses Are Paid
The Griffith Foundation provides funds to cover the costs of graduate credit, course tuition, and educational materials. And, if you choose the hybrid option, the foundation also covers your on-campus lodging and dining. The only expense you have is for travel. This is a popular course that fills fast, so get your application started as soon as possible.

Graduate Credit
Three graduate credit hours are awarded at no cost to you for successful completion of the program. To inquire if the credit may be used toward your teaching license renewal, contact the Ball State Office of Teacher Education Services at 1-800-382-8540 or e-mail Jane Thomas, licensing advisor.

The program is open to a limited number of participants. To be eligible, you must be teaching a course leading to a high school diploma that contains insurance education. Teachers, grades 6-12, in the following and related disciplines are encouraged to apply:
