English as a Second Language Add-on License

What can adding an English as a second language (ESL) license to your license program do for you?

In just 21 credits, you can add on the ESL license area in kindergarten through grade 12. It will prepare you to meet the needs of your English language learners. You are better prepared to meet language standards set for all learners. You bring additional skills to the market that others may not have.

Education officials classify some 5.1 million students in the United States—one in 10 of all those enrolled in public schools—as English language learners, a 60 percent increase from 1995 to 2005 according to The New York Times, March 2009. About 225 native languages are represented by English language learners in Indiana today. Only 467 teachers held ESL licenses in 2004.
