I view myself as a multifaceted professor. My specialty is fiction, but I teach creative nonfiction, literary editing, and a service learning class, Creative Writing in the Community. Although I see myself as teacher first, I am an active writer. In 2009, my collection of flash fiction, How Some People Like Their Eggs, won the Third Annual Rose Metal Press Short Short Contest. In 2011, I published two books: Fog Gorgeous Stag (Publishing Genius Press) and a 5-chapbook collection with other flash writers, They Could No Longer Contain Themselves (Rose Metal Press). I publish in forums as diverse as the Huffington Post to established print literary magazines such as Hayden’s Ferry Review and Crazyhorse. Recent work of mine has been selected for Dzanc Best of the Web, wigleaf’s top 50, and has been nominated twice for The Pushcart Prize. I have won or placed in many literary awards. I was also awarded Ball State University's 2011 Creative Endeavor award. In addition to my work in the Creative Writing program at Ball State, I write for HTMLGiant and have a literary blog at
